How to remember: Can you do the action? Can I jump? Yes, I can it is a verb.
Examples:
- things you can do – run, jump, sing, listen
- tricky verbs – is, was, are, were, has, had, have, shall, will
Adverbs
Definition
Adverbs describe the verb.
How to remember: adverb has the word “verb” in it. Adverbs tell us about the verb. It is common for adverbs to end with “ly”.
Examples
- how something is done – quickly, slowly, carefully, loudly and softly
- how often – monthly, seldom
- where it happens – here, there
- how intense it was – hardly, extremely
- time – today, yesterday
